$6.00 Skirt, Plaid, and Lots of Coziness

I picked up this (and two other) linen blend skirts at Target for $6.00 a piece a little while back. One was white, and one was bright pink, so those might go away for the season (although I have a few plans for the pink), but this navy one is out to stay! I'm in Atlanta, so I'm not necessarily needing the greatest warmth. This lightweight, elastic waist skirt is perfect for layering, is a great color, and looks great with boots and tights. Oh, and did I mention it was six dollars? Anyway, I've been super into plaid lately (like the rest of the world), so I paired it with this fun shirt from old navy, a little arm bling, and some nude pointy toed flats. I like the mustard belt as a way to cut off all the navy and dark greens going on.

Purple Pant on Repeat

What can I say? I can't help myself! These are my new (old) favorite pants for the fall. The color almost serves as a neutral, and it adds definite fun to an outfit. I picked up these pants when last winter was ending at Old Navy for $8.00 and I've been saving them for this time of year. Well my friends, this was money well spent. These pants go with everything fall (leopard, plaid, neutral sweaters, cozy boots, etc.) and I plan on wearing them out this season!

It's Officially Fall!

I've been super sick, so I have not been outfit posting, but summer passed right before my eyes! This year, my birthday marked the first day off fall, and I'm already enjoying weather that is a little cooler. Today is a fall outfit for those days where you feel fallish, but the weather is not quite there. The colors and boots give a fall feel, but the short sleeve peplum shirt makes it a little cooler so you don't burn to death if you live in Atlanta like I do. BTW how about this new leopard Kate Spade cross body bag? I had my eye on this baby since Kate Spade's fall PREVIEW, and my awesome in-laws sent it to me from Ohio for my birthday! Love! Happy fall, ya'll!

Clinging on to Sweet Summertime

I know that everyone is clambering for fall.... pumpkin spice lattes, light layering, smells of cinnamon and spices, candied apples, and falling leaves...but I'm still hanging on. I'm hanging on to sunshine, water drying on my skin, beaches, pools, smells of barbecues, and fireworks. Summer always goes by so quickly, and fall with have it's day, so I'm enjoying summertime while it lasts! What says summer like a hot pink linen skirt? Nothing. What is better than Target sales during changing seasons? NOTHING. I scooped up this linen skirt for a mere $8.00. It's super lightweight and comfy. Comfy and cute? Fahghettaboutit!

My favorite way of getting beach waves? The wand! You must get the wand! These eventually fall into imperfect little waves that look like God blessed you with great hair even though for me, that is definitely not the case!

Rain, Rain Go Away

This rain in Atlanta has been way too depressing, so I decided to face it with the gumption of these bright yellow shorts that I snagged from LOFT last spring. I added the scarf mostly to help protect my (sad, frizzy, humidity and moisture sucking) hair from the water, but I ended up thinking it turned out pretty cute!

All About That Ikat

I saw this Ikat shirt in the window at the J.Crew outlet and immediately fell in love with the indigo color and bold pattern. Of course, I waited until it was on super sale and it became mine. :) The J.Crew ad had this shirt matched with a more masculine army green rolled short, which was a cool contrast, but I made it a little dressier by adding a white pencil skirt and pop of color with the belt. The shoes just let the shirt be the party that it was meant to be!

The Understated Polkadot

I've been really into these cigarette pants and ankle pants lately, and I love this navy blue version in a subtle monochromatic polka dot. Navy and fuchsia is a combination I love--let's be honest, navy and anything is a combination I love, however, this time I went with a fuchsia blazer that I got awhile back at F21. I literally wanted to rip these pants off of the shelf so that nobody else could steal them, then I realized I was the only one in the aisle, so I toned down the crazy and just stuck them in my cart. I'm wearing this more casual with the longer shirt untucked, but this could be really cute with a tucked in structured shirt, or a flowier blouse tucked in.  The pants are down to the ankle, so I paired them with a nude pump to elongate the leg line and give the pants a more polished feel, although these could easily be worn with a flat.

Sweet, Crazy Summer

It's been forever, and I miss my blog world! I apologize for the absence, but this summer, I have finished my on campus graduate school work, gone on two vacations (terrible, I know), and moved to the great city of Atlanta! I'm super excited to be back in the south, and I'm excited to see some different looks now that I'm in the big city. This casual summertime look was when I was in Florida. When I'm in Florida, I feel the right to wear whatever bright colors I please, so I put together this ensemble. :)

White v-neck: Target $6.00 on sale
Lightweight tan and white infinity scarf: $8.00 Forever21
Bright pink shorts: J.Crew Outlet $17.00
Seafoam green boat shoes: Old Navy $8.00 on sale

I free-handed these leopard nails today, and despite the lack of professionalism, I'm loving them! What would polka dots and leopard spots be without a little leopard spot?

Talk to you soon, lovelies!

Grad school is throwing off my blogging groove

I had to make a nod to the Disney Emperor's New Groove in the title because I think that movie is hilar. So hilar.

Anyway, I might have a hard time making outfit posts this week because I am at a graduate school intensive, but I did manage to snap a shot of these babies during the day:

Bright pink loafies: NY&Co $7.00

As you can see, I got these loafies (I call them loafies--they are obviously loafers) for 80% off, which costs me $7.00 at NY&Co this weekend. I'm not the hugest fan of their clothes, but it is their big annual sale, so if you want some cut belts, jewelry, and shoes, I would try and make it over there.  I was eyeing some bright loafers at the Cole Hann outlet that were bright with some fun trim, and of course it was Cole Hann, so I would have to promise my first born child and my right arm to get them. So, I passed, and my waiting paid off! These bright pink ones with a Khaki trim are a great pop of color and are old lady shoes in such a good way. I also got a pair of yellow ones (don't tell my husband) because they were such a great deal!

Comfy Casual

A laid back day calls for laid back style! I like how comfortable this outfit is, while maintaining some put-togetherness (put-togetherness a word? I don't think so). I like the neutral sweater with the pink, and the fun pattern of the flat!

Bright pink shorts: J.Crew Outlet $17.00
White button down: Loft $9.00

Dressing for Travel: The Windy City

My husband and I got the wonderful opportunity to go to a wedding in the beautiful city of Chicago. It has pretty much been blazing hot here in VA, but Chicago was definitely cooler. I didn't quite know how cold it would be factoring in the wind and being outside on boat tours and baseball games, so I just decided to do what every girl would do--bring a million layers! Wearing a sweater or v-neck with a scarf and blazer gave me the opportunity to take away some layers (although I didn't find myself doing that often). I had a wonderful time, and I have included an example of layering for travel below! The nude sweater, black blazer, and white skinny jeans are all things that can be used again, hence making packing a little lighter. Now, if you're like me, that's just an excuse to shove more things into your bag that you don't even need. Hi, I'm Erin, and I have been overpacking for 20+ years.

I have also posted the outfit I wore to the wedding we attended. It was a beautiful wedding right in the heart of downtown Chicago. The green lace dress was fun and comfortable, and the nude pumps were comfortable despite their height, thanks to a platform!

Texture and Print Mash-up

The big eyelet texture on this skirt can be intimidating because it can almost act like a print. I tend to pair plain solids with skirts or bottoms like these, but I kind of like the controlled chaos on the mixed texture and pattern!

Orange and Blue

This is an easy work outfit that helps me stay warm in my super cold classroom!! I like to wear things like this on days that I know I'll be moving around a lot (which is most of the time). I like the little details of the buttons on the shoulder of the sweater, and the pop of the gingham against the orange. Plus, blue and orange is a great color combo (go gators!)

Calling all Patriots

With summer coming and memorial day just passing, I'm feeling very patriotic, and very ready to sport some good ol' red, white, and blue! I have put together some ideas for r/w/b outfits that are all over the map (shorts, dress, pants) and with different shades of r/w/b. Be sure that when you're picking your outfit for a patriotic holiday that you explore some different types of blues and reds--it can add a fun flair and still show off your love of country. Here's to you, U.S.A!

Polkapalooza

A black and white polka dot shirt is classic, fun, and as versatile as a pair of jeans! I got this shirt at Zara during my honeymoon in Italy and I love it because it's a lightweight fabric that can be tucked in or worn out. Below are some options for the black and white polka dot shirt!

Trouser Power

I love a good trouser. They make me feel powerful, tall, and professional. The cut of the trouser is great on a variety of people, and they can make your legs look like they're going on for miles. This cream colored trouser is great because it's so versatile and are long enough to be worn with heels. If you're having a hard time feeling like the ruler of your classroom, or if you just want a little power in that walk, try a pair of these. I swear, it works!

Short Dress Fix

To all you clothes hoarders out there (guilty), perk up your ears and listen--I have another reason to hold on to some clothing items!

Have you ever been temporarily delusional in thinking that a dress is appropriate when it's not, or were so blinded by the great price, that you just buy it without trying it on? (guilty again) This Old Navy "shirt dress" below was so cheap and so cute on the rack that I just bought it in a moment of glee without trying it on. I guess they meant it when they said shirt dress, because this dress was literally like a shirt. The underlining is shorter than the top sheer lining and it's really just not appropriate for work or church...or ever. So, I decided to belt it, and I ended up liking the results! I would also wear this with white skinny jeans if it was chillier.

Think {bright} pink!

I found this lightweight sweater at J.Crew one day, and I love how bright and cheery it is! I like the way the blazer off-sets the bright pink color and adds a little structure to the look since I didn't tuck the sweater in. The outfit was definitely lacking a waistline without the blazer. I paired it with a white pencil skirt from Banana Republic and a three-strand mint necklace from Charlotte Russe outlet. I had to add the bright pink Kate Spade bangle for a little fun arm candy. :)

Neutrals {with a pop of color}

I love these trends I've been seeing of either white on white, or white with beige or tan. I love neutrals just as much as I love some color, so I did head-to-toe neutrals with this tie front blouse from the cutest boutique ever (www.shopacutabove.com), white skinny jeans, and a leopard clutch/wallet thingy (you all know the ones in Target). I decided to pair it with these fun mint Jessica Simpson pumps I got for Easter, and it definitely elongated the outfit. I felt like I needed a little elongating, since white and light tones can make you feel a little chubbsier than dark colors.

Ikat and Gold

It's Memorial Day weekend, and I love this time of year! It's been stormy here, so the weather has cooled down a bit. I decided to go with summary colors, but stay a little covered to keep off the chill. This shirt is in an ikat print of turquoise and white with cute little gold buttons. It's more of a flowy tunic and I love it because it's light, but can keep wind chill away. It could be belted, but because I have skinny jeans on, I decided to just let it flow. I liked the gold compliment for the white, so I went with gold accessories, and gold Kino flip flops that my husband got me for Christmas. For those of you who don't know, Kinos are made only in the Florida Keys and are super comfortable because they have a more squishy bottom than a flat flip flop. They are also a great alternative to Jack Rogers, coming in at a much cheaper price of about $13-20.

Teacher Appreciation Week Bonus

When I first got my teacher I.D, the only power I thought I possessed was being able to tell kids that they were late to class or needed to stop throwing food in the lunch room.

Wrong.

That little I.D holds purchasing power. Almost every women's retailer and some mixed retailers (J.Crew, Banana Republic) give a teacher's discount. So, if you're no longer a student, but still want those discounts, just become a teacher! Just kidding. That's a terrible reason to become a teacher. Either way, my friend and I went to LOFT because they were having extra percentages off for teacher appreciation week, and that's how I snagged this yellow beauty of a skirt. This thing is majorly bright, but it's fun and can make you look tanner than you really are--what could be wrong with that?!

Sunday Best

This outfit is just a mix of some of my favorite color combinations. I just love khaki and white together, and the coral/turquoise combo with my shoes and bag are another favorite color combo of mine. I wore that ruffled shirt on a West Wing tour of the White House, so I always feel snazzy when I wear it!

Cardigan Two Ways

I got this tan and white leopard cardigan at Gap Outlet awhile back with my friend Emily. We bought the same cardigan, and we somehow had a knack for wearing it to work on the same day! She is now doing missions work in South Africa, but I can always wear this sweater to remember her. ;)

I have paired this cardigan two ways. One with some flared dark denim, and then with some mint shorts. The entire rest of the outfit is the same besides the bottoms and the bag!

I Have a Soft Spot for the Polka Dot

There's just something so classic, fun, cute, and just....endearing about the polka dot (to me, anyway). I love how the pattern can almost act as a texture or color because it is so commanding. I wore this navy and white skirt to work and I just felt happy while wearing it! Let's be honest, I can use all the help I can get when trying to get a bunch of 7th graders to focus when it's so beautiful outside and summer break is 20 days away. I went simple with a white button down, chunky navy necklace, and a pop of yellow in the wedge. There's a lot of combinations that can be worn with this and I'm excited to experiment with this skirt in the future. I think I feel a polka dot skirt options post in the future...
